im having the same problem my sister got arrested and is now facing deportation, we are all citizens and i was told i had to wait until i turned a certain age to get her papers and my mothers papers started. Now i find out that she is 21/2 weeks pregnant. When i called ins before finding out she was pregnant and asked them what was going to happen to her i got a very disturbing answer from an agent Brem i believe he said he did not care if she got killed or raped or whatever she was here illegaly and it was not his problem, she is still being held and we are just waiting to see what happens she has been here since she was an infant she has never even been to mexico and now we are facing havig to find a way to get her adjusted to a new life, this kind of thing is horrible yes i know she did wrong by being here without papers but to seperate her from the only family she has and deport her is just not right

P.S. One year after the Michael Bianco raid in New Bedford MA (close to home for me in Boston), supposedly ICE is taking measures to keep parents and young children together. Worth keeping an eye on. NCLR released a report "Paying the Price: The Impact of Immigration Raids on America’s Children" available at http://www.nclr.org/content/publications/detail/49166/.

Unfortunately, we cannot afford to be naive. For an eye-opener, the next time you read an article like this in the on-line edition of the newspaper, check out the blog. Steel yourself first. The commentary is poisonous - I won't repeat it here. The simple statement, "This person is human," has become subversive. Thank you for recognizing that, and please say it in public and often!

I cannot believe that this has happened. How can families be separated like this??? Did the immigration authorities even consider what would happen to this poor girl or her unborn child? I am simply stunned!

I agree that the line between racial profiling and local laws being enforced constitutionally is growing slimmer. Still, it is posts like this one and reporting, like that done by the LATimes that only aggravate the situation more. The article cited does not fully report the incident that occured, yes Emelina was arrested but there is more to the story, including the fact that she was already wanted.

Law enforcement is not perfect, but I think many of the initiatives taken by law enforcement bodies around the country, especially in areas that have seen a huge influx of immigrants, goes to show that they are trying to work with the situations they have in front of them. If 287(g) is another way to keep the community safe, then so be it. We have similar laws that remove felons who are citizens from certain parts of society, such as the laws in place for sex offenders released from the prison system.

Spreading the message to not trust police is not snesible.
