Though the bill is a compromise and a number of progressive changes have been lost, the bill must be considered a work in progress even after it has passed. If passed, it can be amended and anyone with an interest in improving the state of health care for all should make their opinions known to their elected representatives.

One of the reasons many men don't want to be considered a feminist is because the label has many uses; there is no one feminism.

Some people believe in true gender equity, and support greater equity even when it means that women might be worse off than they currently are. (For instance, greater equity in college enrollment would decrease the number of women attending, because women are currently 60% of college students.)

But, many other people only support "equality" when it means women will be better off, and look the other way when equity and fairness require supporting men. It's "women first" and equality is just a tactic in the tool bag.

I think we should just drop the label of feminism and replace it with the more accurate titles of "Gender Equity" and "Women First." A lot more men will get on board with gender equity if they believe the movement is for genuine equity and will support men when they're treated unfairly just as it supports women.
