Introducing Bibiana Martinez, the newest edition the NVNV team. Bibiana is the Spring Community Mobilization Intern. About Bibiana:
What brings you to NLIRH?
I love the organization’s mission and its work; it matches my passion for women’s rights and reproductive health. NLIRH combines what I consider to be two of the main aspects of activism: policy work and community mobilizing. My personal experiences as a Latina immigrant have been a driving force in my career choices and have led me to jobs in which I have worked mostly with Latinas. I feel that NLIRH is the perfect place in where I can combine my background as a Latina and an activist to contribute to the women’s rights movement.
What is it about reproductive justice that gets you going?
For me, it’s all about justice. Social justice is my passion, and there can be none while women are not being treated equally and their rights are not being respected. It is our duty as women to participate in our country’s political discourse and demand that we are acknowledged in the broader social justice movement.
What are some issues you think you will blog about?
I want to blog about current developments that affect women’s rights, especially their reproductive rights. I think its important to keep our eyes open to what is happening in the world and how that affects us and the issues we are fighting for. I consider it my duty as an activist to bring light to these issues and to add my voice to the social discussions that take place in our society today.
